Founded in 1872 by Dean Butler and formerly at Lancaster Gate, St Mary’s School, Gerrard’s Cross's was established as an Independent Day School in Gerrards Cross in 1937, now catering for more than 370 students.
In the very desirable suburban area of Gerrards Cross, surrounded by beautiful countryside, the school is located 20 miles from London, close to the M25 and A40/M40, on the main bus routes and a short walk from the train station. In 19 minutes, trains from London arrive.
The goal of the School is to provide day girls between the ages of 3 and 18 with excellent academic and rounded education leading to university and to enable each of them to grow their own talents and personalities in a secure, caring and purposeful environment and to become successful, fulfilled adults.

There are frequent trips to places of educational interest, field courses are held, international tours are planned, including a ski trip to Canada and expeditions to Peru and arts trips to New York. In The Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme, Young Enterprise and Model United Nations, participation is highly successful. There is an outstanding ratio of staff to students.
The Buildings are a highly appealing combination of old and new and include two Libraries, a Dining Hall, a Science Block with Labs, a large open-plan Art Studio, a Food Technology Room, Textiles Room, two Computer Suites, a spacious and modern Sixth Form Centre, two large Music Rooms, Drama Studio, Chapel and two Assembly Halls/Gymnasiums, Cedar House opened in 2016.
A new classroom block with state of the art technology, Cherry Tree House, opened in 2018. A brand new Early Years Centre and two modern purpose-built blocks, with a Science Laboratory, Hall, Gymnasium, Textiles/Art Room and ICT Suite, are part of the Prep Department in the Senior School grounds. The magnificent grounds include an athletics track.
